Our Mission
It’s in the name; the Education Symmetry Project exists to eliminate information asymmetry in education. We know that one of the biggest struggles facing students, especially those in ESP’s constituent groups (rural, first-generation, and transfer students), is a lack of information about the higher education atmosphere or the paths to success within it. For some, this challenge is exacerbated by the need to graduate from an institution in less than four years, whether that need is imposed by the institution, as is true for transfer students, or is the result of financial constraints. Regardless of the cause or severity of asymmetry, we believe that information about the paths to success should never be a barrier for a student who wants an education and has what it takes to receive one.
Our Vision
The core of the American dream is that all people, regardless of their background, have the opportunity to succeed provided they put in the work. We know that regardless of how much a student works, success is left to luck unless they have the information they need to take their future into their own hands, draft a plan, and make it a reality. Our vision is a future in which a student from a steel town who doesn’t even know a lawyer has the same information about the path to success in the legal field as a student who grew up doing their homework in their parents’ law office. We are working to create a future in which no student is without a mentor and the road to success is clear. There will always be students who have people in their lives who can give them a list of steps to follow on the path to success, and that’s okay. However, we believe that everyone deserves that same clarity about what the future holds; success for the Project is to deliver that clarity.
